Why Do I Coach?

I believe that life is a precious gift, and that we owe it to ourselves, our fellow human beings and our environment to use it well. I am inspired to live with a sense of purpose, and to help others do likewise.

Through my previous career of 25-years in photojournalism, I encountered many thousands of people, from every strata of society, and, in the process, learned the art of communication.

I came to enjoy the opportunity to meet and talk with others as a significant part of my working life and felt a strong desire to make positive communication the primary focus of my work, rather than a side-benefit.

My coaching career emanates from a chance encounter with co-director of The Winding Staircase, Kim Lisson. The Winding Staircase is a leading provider of coach training, and professional and personal development in Western Australia. My curiosity was aroused, and through several months as a client, I was helped to make some powerful changes in the way I lived my life. More than that, I came to a realisation that the profession of coaching answered a deeply felt sense of vocation. In joining The Winding Staircase, Coach School program in Perth I found the place to develop my intuitive gifts, whilst adding the rigour of formal study, and graduated with a Diploma of Professional Coaching in 2005.

The journey into coaching has been long and varied, and it has equipped me well, with the life experience and training to do the work  feel that I was born to do. As a coach I can honestly say that there is nothing better than to partner somebody as they come alive to their own unique journey.
